Key facts about culture in the North East

 The North East has a strong cultural offer:

  • The creative and cultural industries are worth £755m in GVA to the North East economy;
  • Over £20,000 people are employed in 6,000 organisations in the North East's  creative and cultural sector; a further 3,375 are employed in cultural and heritage institutions;
  • In 2012 there were 4.3m trips by British residents to the North East and this generated £777m in revenue to the region;
  • Between 2005 and 2010 the number of organisations operating in the creative and cultural industries grew by 8% in the North East; and
  • In 2011/12 there were more than 38k students studying related courses in the North East.
